As we now work across boundaries, geographies and cultures, it’s important that everyone feels and is included. Promoting diversity will ensure your workplace is inclusive supporting all no matter what their skin colour, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation or gender. If you encourage a place of work where people feel happy and comfortable being themselves you could have a workplace free of discrimination, harassment and victimisation, imagine that for a moment.
As an employer you have a legal responsibility to provide equality. But where do you start?
- Having the inclination and desire to instill an inclusive workplace is a great first step to improving your own attitude. Removing all that unconscious bias.
- Understand the Law, The Equality Act and the protected characteristics in the countries where you operate and employee staff.
- Create/Review internal policies and procedures relating to Equality and Discrimination ensuring that everyone is protected.
- Promote acceptable behaviours in the workplace which represent your values as an inclusive employer.
There are many benefits of an inclusive working environment.
